When the grid goes down, so too does the inverter with the SB-HF's
However, the more modern SB-TL-22 inverters are equiped with a secure power supply (SPS) which is a very nice feature to have in a grid-tied inverter. It allows, when the sun is up, to supply 1500 Watts at 12 amps without battery. This is the go to for someone not quite ready to have an off-grid or battery backed up PV system.
