Allowable conductor ampacity in PV systems is determined using NEC article 690 and 310.  Refer to 690.8 to first determine the ampacity of the circuit - you will utilize article 310 to apply adjustement and correction factors.  Once the ampacity of the circuit is determined use article 310 to specify a conductor size.

Specifically to your question, a 12 AWG copper conductor is specified as having a maximum current of 25A, based on the copper 75 degC column of Table 310.15(B)(16) - NEC2014.  This value does not account for adjustment or correction factors that may apply.
