Illinois' ComEd and Ameren Distributed Generation Rebates for Commercial Solar and Energy Storage Systems

Illinois' largest utility companies, ComEd and Amaren, offer commercial properties rebates of up to $300 per kW for installing a solar system. An additional rebate of up to $300 per kW is available for an installing energy storage unit when paired with solar. Through ComEd, any upgrade costs associated with installing a battery energy storage system exempt. Illinois Shines (Adjustable Block Program)

Commercial building owners with solar systems installed by Illinois Shines certified installers can receive renewable energy credits (REC) for each megawatt-hour of energy generated from their system. Utility companies can purchase these generated RECs for a fixed price set by the Illinois Power Agency, and 50% of Illinois' RECs must be supplied through this program. Once the commercial system is operating, Illinois Shines can cover up to 50% of the cost of the overall system. 

As noted above, there are several Illinois-specific solar incentives available, making Illinois one of the most compelling states for solar in the country. These incentives can be combined with federal solar incentives (more details below) to significantly reduce the cost of installing solar, or solar plus battery systems.

30% Business Energy Investment Tax Credit (ITC) - Deadline to receive credits December 31st, 2027!

The Business Energy Investment Tax Credit program allows businesses to claim 30% of their solar system costs as a federal tax credit. Additional tax credits are available depending on the district. Connect with a local installer to find out if you qualify for additional tax credits.
